Porsche adds a limited edition of the nine-eleven, this time it’s the 911 Carrera GTS Convertible Americaa series of only 115 units for the North American market -100 for the United States and 15 for Canada-.

Considered one of the most exclusive 911s of the 992 generation, this car follows Porsche’s tradition of creating a defined convertible for American customers as it did with the 356 America Roadster70 years ago and the 964 America Roadster 30 years ago.

Based on the 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet, the 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America is exclusively available with the three-litre six-cylinder biturbo boxer engine480 hp and 569 Nm of torque- seven-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.

It is equipped with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, which lowers the ground clearance by 10 millimeters, as well as secondary springs on the rear axle and a sports exhaust system. Other differentiating elements are the Sport Chrono package, the steered rear axle and the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes.

Interior features black leather upholstery, red seat belts, white background tachometer, red and gray stitching, “America” embroidery, and illuminated running board plaques commemorating the 70th anniversary of the 356 America Roadster . .

On the outside, this 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America is distinguished by Azure Blue 356, inspired by the 356 America Roadster of 1953, and RS Spyder design wheels – these have white inner spokes, silver outer flats and a red protective strip along the rim.

At the bottom of the doors there is a sticker with the word America in white on a background of this color with a red stripe. The model designation on the rear bears “911 Carrera” in white and “GTS” in red.

356 America Roadster

  • Max Hoffman, the first Porsche importer in the United States, quickly found success with American customers with the 356 when he began selling it in 1950.
  • Hoffman knew that a more affordable model would help him reach more customers, and he convinced Porsche to develop a special, simpler version for that market: the 1953 356 America Roadster.
  • Barely naked, it had a 1.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine, developing 70 hp.
  • This figure represented a significant jump over previous models, which had a smaller 40 hp engine.
  • This very basic sports car gave birth to the 356 Speedster, which takes up the steel bodywork of the 356 Cabriolet with reduced equipment, but not as much as its predecessor.
  • Only 16 examples of the 356 America Roadster were made, placing it among the most exclusive 356s.

964 America Roadster

  • In 1992, some 40 years after the first “America Roadster”, Porsche revived the concept as part of the 964 generation 911.
  • Once again, a performance-enhanced American convertible version reached US dealerships in limited numbers: 250 units.
  • This special series had the bodywork, brakes, suspension and 17-inch Porsche Cup rims of the 911 Turbo.
  • In this sense, the common points of the 992 generation between the GTS version and the Turbo, combined with the Carrera engine, make the new America Cabriolet a true spiritual successor to the America Roadster.
