Reviews | Honor X7, X8 and X9, smartphones that seek to offer more for less - La Tercera

The mid-range is undoubtedly the most disputed area in the field of smartphones. Whether for prices or specifications, the market generates a real tug of war to stand out in a veritable ocean of devices. In this area, the brand Honor Now it’s battling to get noticed by three teams that stand out for their slim design, attractive specs, and memory performance boosted by a new system implemented by the company.

The phones in question are Honor X7the X8 and the greatest of allthe X9. It is three versatile teamsIt is that, given the price scenario and the technical proposals of the market, they definitely comply with something that for many consumers is still very, very important: the three Bs. In other words, something is good, pleasant and cheap.

I won’t overwhelm you with all the details, but here are the basic technical characteristics of each team. The X7 and X8 share the use of the Snapdragon 680 processor, while the X9 uses the Snapdragon 695. They all run on the Android 11-based Magic UI 4.2 operating system,

  • Screen: 6.74-inch HD+ LCD and 90Hz refresh rate
  • Memory: 4 GB of RAM (+ 2 GB virtual) and 128 GB of storage + microSD (up to 512 GB)
  • Cameras: 8MP front selfie, 48MP main rear sensor. 5MP wide angle, 2MP depth and 2MP macro
  • Battery: 5000mAh with 22.5W fast charge
  • Others: 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and fingerprint reader on one side
  • Screen: 6.7″ Full HD+ LCD with 90Hz refresh rate

  • Screen: 6.81″ Full HD+ LCD with 120Hz refresh rate
  • Memory: 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage

  • Others: 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and fingerprint reader on one side

Put the cards on the table, the links between the three teams are undeniable.

Of course, from the outset the camera modules are quite different, since the X7 follows tradition in the location on the left to place its sensors, while the X9 brings out its power with a central module that recalls in design this what they used to do. makes gear like the Huawei Mate 40.

There are also design differences in other aspects, such as the placement of the front camera in a hole in the X8 and X9, while in the X7 it differs with a small tab, but the placement of the buttons, audio output and this type of elements are practically the same.

Even in height and weight, these teams do not differ excessively, and seen from the front the “kinship” is clearly noticeable. And it’s this kind of thing that allows, for example, the least equipment not to be installed as a simple light version of the most powerful equipment in the range.

In this sense, it should be noted that the similarities also turn to team advantages, since beyond the fact that only one has 5G, that the middle team has a battery with less autonomy and that the characteristics of fluidity on the screen depend on the money put on the table, they all share a vision of delivering more for less.

Take for example the great workhorse of these smartphones: the Honor Ram TURBO Systemwhich provides better performance by virtually increasing the RAM by 2 GB. This not only implies that the equipment acts faster, but also has the capacity to support a greater number of processes at the same time, without involving a decrease storage memory.

To this is added the idea that all these teams have a design with more limited edges, so that the front takes advantage of the screen with the different refresh rates that their displays include, and this can also be generalized in pointing out that they have a battery job that gives what everyone expects: that you don’t have to look at the charger but until the end of the day, since normal use of social networks and navigation gives for what can be considered a day from dawn to dusk.

In this last point, another important factor should also be highlighted: all three Honor X devices have fast charging that works great. In 15 minutes they can recover autonomy to keep the equipment running for several hours, so that a full charge takes much less time than usual.

And the rest of the elements fulfill a function above the average of what is expected of a mid-range team of this type. Computer processors aren’t state-of-the-art, but they’re still as efficient as possible for day-to-day tasks.

They’re obviously not ideal for testing the most demanding games, but overall they work great for powering an Android-based OS that’s pretty clean and smooth as well. At the same time, it is customizable enough to satisfy users who need to adjust every element.

Finally, it only remains to note that the work of the cameras is not dazzling as in the most powerful high-end equipment, but that they meet the basic needs of what a user is generally looking for today. today. For example, I can say that the X7 has a night mode which, being one of the most scrutinized factors, is not far from the results of other teams looking to comply with the three Bs. Meanwhile, the X9 obviously achieves more striking results thanks to a more powerful sensor setup.

Here are some sample photos taken with the X9

Finally, it only remains to note that the X7 is currently on sale on Honor’s official website in a promotion that includes a speaker for 209,990 Chilean pesos. Meanwhile, the X8 is worth $269,990 with the same promotion. The X9 has yet to arrive in the country, but pricing is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
