Ultimate performance in its purest form: the new Audi R8 Coupe V10 GT RWD

12 years after the premiere of the first Audi R8 GT, Audi Sport GmbH is launching the second edition of this ultimate super sports car: the new Audi R8 Coupe V10 GT RWD. The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine boosted power to 456 kW (620 hp), making it the most powerful rear-wheel drive unit in the brand’s history. The new 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox changes gears even faster, and the new Torque Rear driving mode allows those behind the wheel to choose the intensity of the ESC assistance according to their preferences. So they can benefit from controlled and at the same time very precise re-steering. The seven steps of the Torque Rear mode can be adjusted via the steering wheel control satellite. The R8 GT is limited to 333 examples worldwide. New exclusive exterior and interior details pay refined tribute to the first generation R8 GT. These are, for example, sequential numbering, special light-alloy wheels and an interior that combines black and red.

The R8 GT benefits from an optimized V10 engine

In contrast to the R8 V10 performance of the 570 hp RWD model, on which the second edition of the R8 GT was built, Audi Sport GmbH has now increased the performance of the special model, to bring it to the same level as the performance of the quattro model. More specifically, this means: 620 hp from 10 cylinders, a cylinder volume of 5.2 liters and a torque of 565 Nm available between 6,400 and 7,000 rpm (max.: 8,700 rpm). Consequently, the R8 GT accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in just 10.1 seconds. Its maximum speed is 320 km/h.

Another decisive difference: the new 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which takes even less time to change gears. Thanks to adjustments to the gear ratio and the associated higher speed, the new transmission allows for even more impressive acceleration in all gears. In addition, the R8 GT also benefits from a special exclusive design element: the intake manifold is painted black.

The new way to drive Torque Rear

Audi Sport GmbH, which builds the R8 GT mostly by hand at its Böllinger Höfe facility, now offers the Torque Rear driving mode for the first time. Thus, slippage is controlled on the rear axle using the traction control system (ASR). It is part of the ESC system. ASR has memorized seven characteristic settings that offer different levels of assistance. Level 1 allows only mild slippage, while level 7 allows severe slippage. The Rear torque mode step can be selected from the steering wheel control satellite. This mode also allows settings to be adjusted as the driver’s skills improve and according to driving conditions. Depending on the development of these aspects and on the basis of information from the wheel speed sensor, as well as the steering angle, the position of the gas pedal and the selected gear, the engine control unit doses the torque on the rear axle accordingly.

Less is more

Compared to the R8 Coupe V10 performance RWD, several weight reduction measures have been implemented, totaling around 20 kilograms. Therefore, the car weighs a total of 1,570 kilograms (without driver). An important role in weight reduction is also played by the exclusive 20-inch rims, which have 10 spokes and can be combined with high-performance Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires. These tires are designed for use on the road as well as on the race track.. The forged rims are extremely light and are designed based on the Audi cars used in motorsports. The weight reduction was also contributed by the ceramic brake system, which is extremely powerful and is included in the standard equipment of the R8 GT model. Added to these are R8 folding seats and a sports performance suspension with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) stabilizer. The stabilizer on the front axle is made of plastic reinforced with carbon fibers. Together with two connecting rod links, which are made of red anodized aluminum (protects against corrosion), the stabilizer reduces weight and optimizes road holding and cornering dynamics. Even sportier R8 GT coilover suspensions are optionally available. In this way, you can adjust the body position as well as the levels of compression and traction in an individualized way. Upon delivery, customers who have opted for the R8 GT will receive proper setup instructions as well as the appropriate tools.

Clothing rises to a status level

To distinguish the Audi R8 V10 GT RWD from other members of its family, this special model is equipped with exclusive elements. The first recognizable detail is the black inscription “R8 GT” on the back. Likewise, all other emblems on the car are also black. The high-gloss Carbon Aerokit package was developed in the wind tunnel to give the car excellent road stability, allowing it to corner at higher speeds. The Carbon Aerokit package consists of the following elements: front splitter, applications on the rear air diffusers, applications on the side skirts, CW elements on the sides of the rear bumper, a diffuser and a wing mounted on a “swan neck” bracket. This type of installation ensures optimal air flow. under the wing and thereby increases aerodynamic efficiency.

In the style of its predecessor, the new R8 GT is painted in Suzuka Grey. As alternatives, Tango Red metallic and Daytona Gray metallic exterior colors are offered.

As for the interior, Audi Sport GmbH pays tribute to the first R8 GT from 2010. Thus, the interior is finished in an attractive combination of black and red. For example, red belts are only available for the R8 GT model from 12 years ago. The mats and folding seats of the R8 bear the red and black inscription of the name of the special model. Another refined detail: buyers will find the serial number of their R8 GT in the middle of the gear lever, with partial pads in the carbon insert.
